Antalya and Istanbul are two of the main tourist spots in the world. Many travelers who would like to go to Antalya, also would like to see Istanbul before. In this article, I will write about different ways of getting to Antalya from Istanbul.

Briefly, you can go to Antalya from Istanbul by bus, by car or by plane. Each one has its own advantage and disadvantage and I will talk about them later.

Where is Antalya?

Antalya is located in the southwest of Turkey on the coast of the Mediterranean. It is considered the tourism capital of Turkey, and it is one of the most populous cities in the Mediterranean part of Turkey.

The province of Antalya is surrounded by the Taurus Mountains on the northern borders. That has allowed the natural beauties to cover a wide area. The mountains make access to Antalya difficult through the north to south direction. Although transportation seems difficult, transportation networks by land, air, and sea are quite developed.

In the summer, its population doubles due to tourist visits. Not only for Turkish people, but it has many tourists around the world visit Antalya mostly during the summer months.

In Antalya, where magnificent landscapes are witnessed, the ruins that are the most beautiful structures of ancient times can be seen. In addition to its lush forests, serene waters of the Mediterranean, it is also possible to have a wonderful sea-sun-sand holiday experience in beautiful accommodation facilities.

The distance between İstanbul and Antalya by road is 431 miles (694 km). Your journey lasts for 8 hours 30 minutes by your own car and for nearly 11 hours by bus.

If you are looking for a faster way, you can go by plane. Your flight takes 70 minutes.

Transportation options from Istanbul to Antalya

Getting to Antalya by Plane 

The fastest way to travel from Istanbul to Antalya is by plane. Flight time between Istanbul and Antalya is 1 hour and 10 minutes. You can use Sabiha Gökçen Airport and Istanbul Airport for flights between Istanbul and Antalya.

Istanbul-Antalya cheapest flight tickets are on Pegasus and Anadolu Jet airlines departing from Sabiha Gökçen Airport. Air travel is one of the most popular ways of getting to Antalya from Istanbul.

The most preferred options in Antalya are Antalya Airport, which is located close to Antalya city center, and Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport, which is located in Gazipaşa.

Antalya Airport is 7 miles (11 km) away from Antalya city center. Antalya Airport as well as from some countries, as many airport direct transport is provided. Ticket prices may vary depending on the date and season. After arriving at Antalya Airport, those who want to move to the city center can choose HAVAŞ buses for a fee. The average journey time between the airport and Antalya city center is 35 minutes.

For passengers arriving at Gazipaşa Airport, the distance between Gazipaşa and Gazipaşa Airport is 3 miles (5 km). Direct flight services to the Gazipaşa Airport in Turkey’s major cities are also available. Since it is very close to Gazipaşa district center, HAVAŞ service is not provided. Guests arriving at Gazipaşa Airport usually take a taxi to the Gazipaşa district. But those who want to go to Alanya can prefer HAVAŞ buses. It takes approximately 60 minutes between Alanya district center and Gazipaşa Airport by HAVAŞ. Ticket prices are around $2.

You can buy an Istanbul-Antalya flight ticket to easily go to the tourism paradise Antalya’s Kemer, Belek, Tekirova, Kumluca, Side, Manavgat, and Alanya districts. You can reach Lara and Konyaaltı from Antalya Airport by bus and airport shuttles in a short time.

Getting to Antalya by bus 

Antalya bus station offers direct access to many options. Many bus companies depart from Istanbul to Antalya Bus Station every half an hour. The ticket prices vary between $15-20. Prices do not differ even if the bus departs from the Anatolian Side of İstanbul or the European Side of İstanbul. The journey takes 12 hours 30 minutes for those coming from the European side, while it takes 10 hours 40 minutes if the bus departs from the Anatolian Side. 

In the summertime, the Antalya bus terminal, which hosts millions of tourists and is the heart of the country in terms of tourism, becomes a busy terminal with a daily capacity of 200 arrivals and departures. You will have many transfer options to many points of Antalya from the Antalya public bus station. You can use the bus or the minibus options as a means of transfer. Besides, you can easily reach any point in the city by taking advantage of the shuttle services. The shuttle services are provided by the bus company that you bought your bus ticket.

Getting to Antalya by car 

For those who plan to go to Antalya from İstanbul by private car, it is pretty easy to reach Antalya. Passengers coming from Istanbul will have an average travel time of 8 hours and 30 minutes. The distance between Istanbul and Antalya is approximately 431 miles (694 km). After starting your journey, you must follow the route of Gebze, Yalova, Bursa, Kütahya, Afyonkarahisar, and Isparta.

Afterward, while you are enjoying the unique scenery around you through the Dereboğazı Road you can reach Antalya through the highway.

Getting to Antalya by Train 

Unfortunately, there is no direct way of traveling to Antalya by train. You can travel from Istanbul by a high-speed-train to Konya, then you can take a bus trip from Konya to Antalya. The traveling time from İstanbul to Konya by train is about 4:30h. Ticket prices start from $10. The travel by bus from Konya to Antalya will take about 5:30 hours. You can have a chance to see Konya if you choose that option, and you may even have a tour in the city center of Konya which is the home of Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi. 

Getting to Antalya by Sea 

It is possible to get to Antalya with a private yacht charter or private cruise, however, there are no options in terms of scheduled public sea transportation. Although Turkey is surrounded by the sea on three sides, the sea transportation in between the western and southern coastal cities is unfortunately not very developed, so there is no regular ferry or ferry schedule available from İstanbul to Antalya. 

Yet it is possible to join boat tours in Antalya to visit the coves and shores around the area. There is sea transportation by yachts or small boats from Antalya Kaleiçi, Kemer, Setur, and Alanya national marinas throughout the year. Especially in southern Turkey, south-west and west coast tour by boat from the marina or yacht, you can have a holiday full of memories that cannot be forgotten. It is also possible to reach very close Greek islands by these cruise, charter, or daily boat tours. 

Urban transportation in Antalya


Antray is the name of the rail system in Antalya.x The 1st stage is the light rail system line that starts from the Fatih region and ends at Meydan station. There are 16 passenger stations and the length of the line is approximately 11 kilometers. There is also a 2nd stage rail system line, which can be switched by transfer, and provides transfer service to the airport. Antray services are organized every 10 minutes. Antray, which is the most preferred transportation network among the people, also has a stop 200 meters away from the Antalya bus station. 


The part of the public buses, which form the basis of Antalya’s urban transportation network, operated by the municipality, is called Anbus. In addition to tram and taxi, Anbus make human traffic the easiest. It is possible to go almost everywhere in the city center of Antalya by Anbus.

The buses, where news bulletins are also published in addition to free wifi, provide transportation from the terminal to the airport, city center, Konyaaltı, Muratpaşa, and many other central districts. The prices of the two-pass Anbus card start from $1. 

Sea Buses

Sea buses are another transportation network that facilitates transportation between the Kemer district of Antalya. Sea buses depart from Antalya Kaleiçi Marina regularly every day and operate between 09.00-17.00. The ticket prices of sea buses departing from Kemer Marina between 10.30-18.30 are around $2. Citizens over 65, veterans, relatives, disabled people, and their companions, police, soldiers, members of the press, and children aged 0-6 can benefit from transportation free of charge.

Nostalgic Tram

One of the most preferred means of transportation in Antalya is the tram. The tram route, which consists of 11 stops, starts from Zerdalılık and ends at the Museum Stop. The ticket price of the nostalgic tram, which moves every hour, is around 50 dollars cent. While moving towards your station, you can observe many touristic spots of Antalya during your journey.


After public buses, trams, and minibusses in Antalya, the most preferred transportation source is taxis. The departure fee of commercial taxis, which are considered as a means of fast transportation, is around 50 dollars cent. Likewise, the price per kilometer of taking a taxi is also priced over 50 dollars cent. On the other hand, prices are different in districts. The opening fee and mileage fee in the districts is around 60 dollars cent.
