While there are 23 different neighborhoods in the outstanding district, it was also bordered by famous places and significant districts in the public eye which are located in the Bosphorus. Besides the admired districts, valuable historical and beloved places are located in Besiktas as well. The magnificent heritage of the district attracts the attention of thousands of tourists every year. In addition to historical & cultural destinations, there is a wide range of restaurants and places where you can taste Turkish and world cuisines at the same time here. In that article I have prepared you, you will learn the transportation and accommodation options in Besiktas, as well as travel recommendations.

Getting to Beşiktaş

Various transportation options are available from many different areas to the Besiktas district. While there are transfer services from airports, you can also prefer ferry services, bus, and taxi options to get to Besiktas. You will be able to find transfer options from Istanbul New Airport and Sabiha Gokcen Airport in the article and also the transportation options from multiple districts and areas in Istanbul.

Istanbul New Airport

The Istanbul New Airport is an international airport which is located on the European side of Istanbul. The distance between the Istanbul New Airport and Besiktas is 42 km. There are 3 different ways that you will be able to prefer; HAVAIST Airport Shuttle, Taxi, or Private Shuttle. The road takes about 90 mins from the airport to the district. If you will prefer the HAVAIST Airport Shuttle, you need to take HVIST-14 which is operating from the Istanbul International New Airport to Besiktas. The capacity of HAVAIST is 46 passengers. The ticket price of HAVAIST is 30 Turkish Liras. The route will take about 90 mins by the HAVAIST. You can look at the departure times online according to your flight.

Sabiha Gokcen Airport

Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport is located on the Asian side of Istanbul and unfortunately, there is no direct transportation from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Besiktas. Sabiha Gokcen Airport provides HAVABUS shuttle service to a few districts in Istanbul. You can prefer Taksim or Kadikoy HAVABUS shuttle service to get to Besiktas. You can also prefer taxis, private airport transfers, and shuttles as well.

Taksim Square

Taksim Square is located on the European side of Istanbul and it is also close to the Besiktas district. There are lots of bus lines that connect Taksim Square and Besiktas so you can take a bus from Taksim Square to Besiktas. Most of the stops of bus lines are in front of the Atatürk Cultural Center(AKM).

Another easy and fast way of getting to Besiktas from Taksim Square is taking a yellow “dolmus”. Stops of yellow dolmus are near the AKM also. Additionally, you can take a taxi to Besiktas which will not cost you too much since these two locations are quite close to each other.

On a nice day, walking also may be a good option.

Sultanahment and Eminonu

The easiest way to get Besiktas from Eminonu and Sultanahmet square is by taking the tramway(T1) to Kabatas Station and transfer to the city buses in Kabatas. Almost all buses that you will see in Kabatas go to Besiktas.

Kadikoy

Kadikoy district is located on the Asian side of the city and the transportation options are comfortable to get to Besiktas. You can directly prefer ferry services, taxi, and bus which has the number 129T. The most preferred transportation to get to Besiktas from Kadikoy is ferry services.

History of Beşiktaş

Besiktas is the municipality and district of Istanbul. The district was established in 1930 and the municipality was founded in 1984. A theory says that the settlement was created by Constantine the Great between 306-337 CE. The historical neighborhoods are also located in Besiktas. During the Byzantine period, Besiktas was known with Auaplus – Ayios Mihael Church, Ayios Mamas Palace, and Fokas Monastery. Dolmabahce Palace

Dolmabahce Palace was built in the years between 1843 and 1856. The palace was designed with the Neo-Baroque and Rococo Revival architecture styles. There is the room of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in the Dolmabahce Palace where he passed away and all of the clocks in the Dolmabahce Palace were stopped at 09:05 and the clock in his room still shows 09:05 which is the time he passed away.

Istanbul Naval Museum

The Istanbul Naval Museum is located in the Besiktas district. The museum which was established in 1897 has a rich and rare collection that is created by Naval cannons, imperial and historical caiques, figures and busts, paintings and artworks, metal and wooden objects, weapons, and numerous historical objects.

Museum of Palace Collections includes the used objects of the prince and princess of the palaces of the Ottoman Empire and numerous historical objects of the palaces at the same time. The collection is created by 43.000 historical objects and 5.000 of them are available to visit.

Yildiz Park

Yildiz Park is a historical park which is located in Besiktas. If you would like to visit one of the largest and historic parks in Istanbul, you can prefer Yildiz Park which was the forest in the Byzantine Empire.

Ihlamur Pavilion

The Sultans of the Ottoman Empire were used to visit Ihlamur Pavilion for resting daily. You can see the neo-baroque architecture style on the building.

Asiyan Museum is the house of Tevfik Fikret who was a famous Turkish poet. The Asiyan Museum is a historic house and poetry museum at the same time. The house was built in 1906 and became a museum in 1945.

Yildiz Palace

Yildiz Palace which is the last palace architecture of the Ottoman Empire was completed in 1880. Yildiz Palace is the only palace that has a theatre in the Ottoman Empire and Turkey.

Yahya Efendi Mausoleum

The Yahya Efendi Mausoleum was built at the beginning of the 1570s by the famous Ottoman architecture Mimar Sinan. The mausoleum is located in front of the Ciragan Palace.

Kucuk Mecidiye Mosque

The Kucuk Mecidiye Mosque which is one of the Ottoman Empire mosques was completed in 1848. If you are planning to visit Yildiz Park, you can easily visit the Kucuk Mecidiye Mosque because the buildings and the park are located so close to each other.

The Museum was located next to Yildiz Park and opened in 1931. The collection was created by the equipment and clothes of the firefighters of the Ottoman Empire and at present.

Besiktas coastline is always the walking road for people who would like to run or walk in the morning. You can also spend time in front of the view of the Bosphorus during the day. The route also includes the famous neighborhoods of Besiktas such as; Bebek, Kurucesme, Ortakoy, etc.

Akaretler Street

Akaretler Street hosts special art galleries, restaurants, cafes, and various stores in the Besiktas district of Istanbul. It is possible to explore the structure of Istanbul on the buildings which are located in Akaretler Street because the buildings were built for the staff of the Dolmabahce Palace more than 130 years ago. While the lights of the street create a unique atmosphere at night, it is a rare experience to discover the street in the morning and afternoon as well.

The Ortakoy Mosque is also known as the Grand Imperial Mosque of Sultan Abdulmecid and Buyuk Mecidiye Mosque. The stunning mosque was built in 1853 – 1854 by Sultan Abdulmecid of the Ottoman Empire with neo-baroque architecture. The Ortakoy Mosque has an impressive view of the Bosphorus.
